If you can get a burger with fresh plump fried oysters instead of a ground beef patty, why not? I was introduced to this delight at a tavern in Coupeville on Whidbey Island, the largest island in Puget Sound. Toby's Tavern sits right on Penn Cove, famous for mussels, but I believe they also farm oysters there. I don't remember if the oyster burger is actually on the menu, so ask for it if you ever happen to find yourself in quaint little Coupeville. They serve good pub burgers too, with all the fixings, but for me no burger meat beats those plump fried oysters.
Location: Toby's Tavern, 8 Front Street, Coupeville, Whidbey Island, Washington. Date: February 28, 2014.
