This was some noteworthy bar food at a Cuban American restaurant. It consisted of three tostones filled with three different meat fillings: lechon on the left, which is tender Cuban style pork, picadillo in the center, which is ground beef with olives and raisins, and ropa viejo on the right, which means old clothes and is a common Latin American dish of shredded beef in tomato sauce. Tostones are slices of plantain which are fried twice. After the first fry, they are flattened and can also be shaped into little cups for filling. The second fry gets them crispy. If you use ripe plantain, the tostones will be sweet and less crispy. Here they used green plantain which ends up tasting more like potato than banana. The pork was garnished with sauteed but still crisp onion slices, the ground beef had sweetness from the raisins, and the shredded beef featured some bell pepper and garlic along with the tomato. All three were served on a bed of rice.
