These are marinated and charbroiled Persian style lamb chops served with saffron basmati rice, two grilled tomato halves, yogurt sauce with cucumber and mint, hummus, and grilled vegetables. Pita bread comes on the side. I took a Spanish friend to this restaurant, and he declared that these were the best lamb chops he's ever had. I took my sister here too, and even though she likes her meat well done, the chops were still juicy and tender. Persians serve grilled tomato with all meat dishes, and I love how they enhance the meat experience with their tangy juiciness.

The Persian salads at Francesco's consist of finely chopped lettuce, cucumber, tomato, red and green bell pepper, and onion; today I also found red cabbage and shredded carrot. It's served with a yogurt sauce that contains lemon juice and shredded cucumber, dill, and mint. I ordered this salad with beef, but you can also choose minced beef kebob. chicken kebob, chawarma, lamb, salmon, shrimp kabob, and swordfish kabob. All the meats and seafood are marinated to perfection and thus very tasty. Today, the onion was shredded and served deep fried giving a lot of crunch to the salad. There is hummus on the side as well as pita bread. These Persian salads are not only noteworthy, they are also complete and healthy meals.

This Persian delight is ground marinated beef that's flattened into a strip and grilled. The meat has been marinated to perfection and there are pronounced grill marks. It came with the same accompaniments I had with the swordfish a week ago: grilled tomato halves, grilled eggplant, onion, and red bell pepper strips, and hummus and cucumber mint yogurt with pita bread wedges. The meat with juicy grilled tomato was crazy good and a hallmark of Persian cooking. The dish was juicy, sour, refreshing, and savory tempered by the fluffy slightly nutty rice garnished with chopped parsley. These Persian meals are just delicious and healthy.

When I realized that my favorite Chinese restaurant was closed for summer holiday, I searched on the internet for some other interesting restaurant to blog from, and to my surprise I found Persian food right here in the Coachella Valley. The restaurant offers both Italian and Persian food and is owned, so my waitress told me, by a Turkish family from Istanbul. I ordered the grilled swordfish kabob, and it came with cubes of marinated and moist swordfish, with intense flavor and great grill marks, that lay on a bed of basmati saffron rice. The dish came with a grilled and very juicy tomato, cut in half, as well as onion, red pepper strips, and thin eggplant slices, all grilled. There was also a ramekin of hummus and another one with cucumber mint yogurt sauce. The meal was accompanied by some wedges of pita bread. There was some crunch from the onion and pepper, some creaminess from the hummus and the yogurt, and a touch of sour from the yogurt and the tomato. The rice was a bit under seasoned but that worked well with the intensely seasoned fish. This meal was savory, juicy, and memorable.
